Hypnosis, according to Dr. Andrew Weil, M.D. noted integrative medical advocate, is the original mind/body medicine dating back to the very origins of mankind. He states that in his opinion, “Hypnosis is one of the most useful techniques to take advantage of the mind/body connection. ”He goes on to say, “I refer patients to it and see much clinical success with it.”

So what is this thing called HYPNOSIS? In very simple terms it is creating a relaxed state much like the one you enter when daydreaming. While a person is in this state of resting alertness, the person’s focus of attention can be redirected to bring about behavioral changes in the individual i.e. less stress, less perceived pain. What you are doing as you go into hypnosis is decreasing your scope of awareness and increasing your focus of awareness. You are reducing your field of awareness and becoming fixed on a very small part with great intensity. This allows you to work on the problem at hand. It is an educational technique where you replace old learnings that are not beneficial to your present life situation with new learnings or just implant new learning that are helpful to your present life.

What can it do for me at this point in my life? It can help you to feel in control, reduce stress and increase comfort, help prepare for pre and post surgery, and help with various parts of your overall treatment plan. It can help you to sleep and reduce need for pharmacological interventions.
