COMPLIMENTARY THERAPY
Reflexology: Provided by ARCB Certified Reflexologist, Theresa Carr. This treatments uses pressure on specific areas of the feet or hands with goals of relieving a variety of symptoms and balancing the flow of energy throughout the body. Offered at a reduced rate through the Center for Cancer Care Fund. Call 860-489-2613 for an appointment.
Art Therapy Workshop led by Cecily Merman, Certified Art Therapist. In a small group participants will work with different artistic methods, while identifying their strengths in coping with cancer. Programs run twice a year for six week sessions. For information call 482-5384.
Massage Therapy: Is the manipulation of soft tissues of the body using a combination of long strokes, gentle kneading and pressure points. Reduced fee for 30 and 60 minute sessions that are tailored to the individual needs of the patient by Michael J. Carr LMT. Call 860 489 2613 for information or appointment.
Reiki Therapy: Free sessions offered by a certified Reiki practitioner. Enjoy a gentle, hands-on technique that promotes deep relaxation, stress reduction and a heightened sense of well- being. Offered on Wednesdays between 10:00 AM and 2:00 PM. Call 489-6718 for an appointment.
Relaxation/Guided Imagery: Uses your imagination to help activate your body’s selfhealing process. Especially helpful with stress, pain, anxiety, difficulty sleeping and decision making. Free Individual sessions. Call Susan Distasio, Nurse Practitioner @ 860 210 7410.
Nutritional Consult: Free nutritional counseling with a Registered Dietician. Available to all patients of the Center for Cancer Care. Call 489-6718 to schedule an appointment.
Yoga: Ideal for anyone with cancer, at any stage of illness, treatment or recovery. Instructed by Susan Distasio, ANP, RYT, certified yoga instructor & Oncology Nurse Practitioner ( CT Oncology-Hematology). Fee is by donation. Classes are held in New Milford Ct. In Torrington Restorative yoga is practiced in a very relaxed state by using supports instead of muscular tension to maintain the pose alignments. Restorative Yoga helps relieve the effects of chronic stress. It helps to alternately stimulate and soothe the organs, encourages blood and lymph flow, and balances flow of energy. Self Hypnosis: with Roger Newbury, certified hypnotherapist. Approved by NIH for chronic pain; involves comfortable relaxation, may help you deal with pain, fatigue, nausea, weight loss; helpful pre-surgery also. Fee: $30 per 60 min session. Call Roger directly @ 860-489-1747.
Touch Therapy: offers free hand, foot and neck massages to patients while in the infusion area or while awaiting radiation therapy treatments at the Center for Cancer Care by Theresa Carr, ARCB Reflexologist and Michael J. Carr LMT.
